Event Description: Doors open at 5:30 p.m. A Musical Tribute to William Shakespeare in honor of the 400th Anniversary of the death of the bard. Sonority women’s vocal quartet presents a program of choralĀ compositions, some newly arranged by the group, which draw on lyrics found within his plays, including The Tempest, Twelfth Night and Hamlet. This program includes songs with tunes from Shakespeare’s time, as well as settings from Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Modern composers, and features a set by contemporary New York City composer Matthew Harris, and a premiere performance of his arrangement, commissioned by Sonority, of ā€œI shall no more to seaā€ from The Tempest. As an enhancement to the musical program, Stonington resident Jonathan Post, UCLA Distinguished Professor, author, and founding Director of the UCLA Summer Shakespeare Program in Stratford and London, will speak about Shakespeare and music, how song texts were set into the plays and the relationship of texts to their settings. Light refreshments will be served. Concert is FREE!
