C.R.O.P  walks help in 70 countries including the United States, with natural disasters, development, and processing and settling of refugees. CROP was started after World War II when food was shipped from the US to war-torn Europe. The organization is made up of thirty-seven churches. It is one of the original “walk-a-thons”. There are approximately 2,000 in the United States. These days we call the acronym Communities Responding to Others Poverty.

The Mystic/Stonington CROP walk began on Columbus Day 1977.

Since the start in 1977, this CROP walk has been under the leadership of Tom Aageson and Rev. Bruce Bouchard, followed by Emily Barrett and Rev. Beth McLaren. Julia Porter continued and for the past two walks Neil Kluepfel and Rev. Mark Santucci were leaders. Eleanor Perry has been area treasurer since 1983.
