SUMMARY:Nautical Nightmares: Wake of the Banshee
DESCRIPTION:Inspiration for this year’s Nautical Nightmare\, Wake of the Banshee\, is founded in the depths of Irish\, Scottish\, and English folklore\, pulling reference from the works of Yeats\, Shakespeare\, and other collected cultural whisperings regarding the mischievously mysterious “fair-folk”. \nEach performance of Nautical Nightmares is an approximately one-hour tour that covers a 1/3 – 1/2 mile of uneven terrain including cobblestone\, wood planking\, grass\, gravel\, and stairs. Audience members walk or stand for the majority of the show. Because performances occur in all weather conditions\, we strongly recommend the use of seasonal outerwear and appropriate shoes. \nPerformances of Nautical Nightmares require a special ticket in lieu of general admission. Elements of the show can be frightening and are not recommended for children under 12 years of age\, or the faint of heart. Each tour is limited to 18 people. Pre-registration is encouraged as tours may fill quickly and tickets at the door cannot be guaranteed on demand. \nOctober 11-12\, 18-20\, and 25-27\n6:00pm-10:00pm\, tours begin every 15 minutes\nMembers: $24\nNon-Members: $28\nYouth Members: $19\nYouth Non-Members: $24 \nPlease call 860.572.0711 to purchase tickets.\nParental advisory — this event is intended for ages 12 and older.\nPerformances occur in some Museum locations that are not accessible for visitors in wheelchairs.

SUMMARY:Free Raptor Education Program at StoneRidge
DESCRIPTION:Doris Mager\, “The Eagle Lady\,” a 93-year-old environmentalist and raptor educator and activist\, will be making a stop at StoneRidge Senior Living Community with E.T.\, her beloved great horned owl\, on Tuesday\, October 22 at 10. a.m. on her farewell education tour. \nMager\, a Connecticut native\, is founder of Save Our American Raptors (S.O.A.R.)\, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of birds of prey through advocacy and education. In the 1980s\, Mager earned her title of “The Eagle Lady” after living in an eagle’s nest\, cradled 50 feet above the ground in a pine tree\, for a week to raise money to build an aviary at Florida Audubon Society. At the age of 60\, Mager rode her bike across the country to protest the use of dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane\, the pesticide commonly known as DDT. \nMager will be talking about the important role that raptors play in the ecosystem and sharing stories about her rich life as a conservator\, rehabilitator and educator. The event is free and open to all ages\, however\, attendees should be aware that E.T. will fly and swoop during the presentation. Guests from the audience may also be asked to participate. Advanced reservations are required and can be made by calling Sandra Pasieka at (860) 572-4494. \nStoneRidge is a senior living community in Mystic\, CT. StoneRidge\, situated on 32 acres\, is next to 100 acres of conservation land at the corner of Jerry Browne and Pequotsepos Roads. A few miles from historic downtown of Mystic\, CT\, StoneRidge is conveniently located close to Olde Mistick Village\, the Mystic Aquarium\, the Mystic Seaport\, the Nature Center and the Mystic Museum of Art. StoneRidge is managed by Life Care Services (LCS®)\, the leader in developing and managing senior living communities nationwide.

SUMMARY:“My Name is ʻŌpūkahaʻia” History Theater Performance
DESCRIPTION:Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives presents a history theater performance of “My Name is ʻŌpūkahaʻia” on board the Charles W. Morgan ship at Mystic Seaport Museum! This one-person play tells the story of Henry ʻŌpūkahaʻia\, a Native Hawaiian man who traveled from Hawai‘i to New England via a boat just like the Charles Morgan. ʻŌpūkahaʻia’s experiences in New England would impact Hawaiian and American history\, and cement ties between New England and Hawai‘i forever. \nAbout Hawaiian Mission Houses and “The Hawai‘i\, New England Connection” tour:\nThe Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives commemorates the 200th anniversary of the first Congregational mission to Hawai‘i with “The Hawai‘i\, New England Connection\,” a 30-day tour of History Theatre\, panel discussions\, and cultural events. This series explores the history and contemporary results of the intersection of New England and Hawaiian culture\, which began in 1819 when the first missionaries left Boston for Hawai‘i and continues today. \n“The Hawai‘i\, New England Connection” features a one-man play\, “My Name is ‘Ōpūkaha‘ia.” Performed by Moses Goods\, Hawai‘i’s premier actor\, storyteller\, and writer\, it recounts the life of ‘Ōpūkaha‘ia\, a young Native Hawaiian man who would change the history of Hawai‘i forever with his arrival in New England. The performance also includes Hawaiian songs and chants\, and discussion of the history of Hawaiian music. \nPerformance is included with entry fee to museum that day.
